My latest work, including weddings, portraits, and event photography.

Hey there! My name is Matt Brodie and I am a wedding photographer in Columbia, SC. My wedding photography is all about strong portraits, real moments and amazing details. Give me a call today and we can talk about why I should be your wedding photographer.

In the mean time this blog is for both my personal and professional photography, and features images from recent weddings, travel and other photography that I'm up to. It's basically like my own personal photo album combined with an information source for my current and potential clients. My blog is less formal and much more fun than some of my other online works. I just want to give everyone a sense of who I am. Thanks for visiting.

Megan & Ladd's Wedding Teaser

Megan and Ladd got married last weekend in Florence, SC. They had a great wedding and I was really excited to finally get to shoot the wedding because it meant I could FINALLY share Megan's stunning bridal portraits.

Before I get too far into the wedding details, here are Megan's Bridal portraits at the beach.

OK, now that you've seen those, let me really tell you about their wedding!

If you've followed my photography at all over the last few years, you'll know that one of the things I always do at weddings is to capture those amazing details that often go overlooked by other photographers, but I also love creating beautiful images of the couples flowers and wedding rings.

Megan is a beautiful bridal. I'm pretty sure she only had two expressions during the wedding. Crying with happiness and just extra happy.

Ladd is also a really great guy. He was down for just about everything and just wanted to have some crazy and fun photos.

Ok, truth be told Ladd might have been a little nervous. About 40 minutes before the wedding all the guys left the church to get one last drop of courage! :) I of course went to make sure they remembered to come back...

The wedding reception was held at Osbornes in Florence. It's a beautiful venue and I was really glad to get to know everyone there. The DJ was Scott G out of Florence. He was a great guy and kept the party hopping until the very end! I'm really hoping to get more weddings in Florence so get to see them all again.

Britton & Jon's Engagement Portraits

Let me first say congratulation to Britton and Jon on their engagement! I met this happy couple at the St. Andrews Bridal Showcase. I'm going to have the pleasure of shooting Britton's Bridal portraits and their wedding photography at the Lace House here in Columbia. We shot their awesome engagement portraits at the State House in Columbia. The weather held out for use and the capital building because a beautiful (if not windy) set for their beautiful engagement session. I really can't wait to hangout with them more. I already feel like we are old friends. We had a lot of fun and both Britton and Jon were great to work with. Here are a few of my favorites from their engagement portrait session at the State House.

Sheila & Joseph's Wedding at the Springdale House in Lexington

Sheila and Joseph's wedding kicked off my 2011 wedding season. They got married at the Historic Springdale house and garden in Lexington, SC. The weather was a little finicky, it rained most of the day. In fact the only time it didn't rain was the 20 minutes of the actual ceremony. I guess someone was smiling down on Sheila for her big day. Though it rained the rest of the time, it didn't stop us from getting some great photos of her wedding day. We actually turned the umbrellas into a cool accessory. Sheila did all of her own flowers and Geoff Ellinwood of Sound Quest Dj's provided the sound to the excellent reception. I have to say, they did a REALLY great job of keeping the party, fun and the crowd dancing! The beautiful wedding cake was make by Carrier Cakes (which was REALLY Yummy!). Also why not shown below Virginia Harpine provided live violin music during the ceremony

Here are a few of my favorites from the day!

Snow Day - 01-1-2011 Columbia

Well it's pretty rare that Columbia gets snow and it's practically unheard of that we get snow twice in one winter. The first time we got snow was over Christmas and unfortunatly, being out of town, I missed getting some shots I really wanted to get. However, today was different. Today it's been snowing and snowing and snowing. So like all good photographers, I packed up the gear, braved the roads and headed out to take some photos.

I started off at the State House downtown. The state house had been basically untouched by people this morning. So there weren't many footprints all over the ground.

Then I turned the camera around and took some shots of Main Street in the snow.

Next I headed over to the hourse shoe. It was really pretty there. Students were just starting to get up and play in the snow. I went to the fountain and made this photo.

I kept invisioning all of the trees in black and white and I think they came out pretty well.

It didn't take long before the students started pelting each other with snow balls. I asked a couple of groups if they minded if I shot some photos of them playing. Of course they didn't care. They just wanted to throw snow balls.

Since I was shooting with the 105 macro I thought it would be a good idea to actually get a close up of something.

One the way home I spotted a couple sledding down a big hill. I pulled the car over and asked if I could photograph them sledding down. Again, no problem! They had a blast. I'm pretty sure they yelled back that they just got engaged! How awesome is that! Snow and a ring! What a way to start the week!
