Snow Day - 01-1-2011 Columbia
Monday, January 10, 2011 at 1:22PM Tweet Well it's pretty rare that Columbia gets snow and it's practically unheard of that we get snow twice in one winter. The first time we got snow was over Christmas and unfortunatly, being out of town, I missed getting some shots I really wanted to get. However, today was different. Today it's been snowing and snowing and snowing. So like all good photographers, I packed up the gear, braved the roads and headed out to take some photos.
I started off at the State House downtown. The state house had been basically untouched by people this morning. So there weren't many footprints all over the ground.

Then I turned the camera around and took some shots of Main Street in the snow.

Next I headed over to the hourse shoe. It was really pretty there. Students were just starting to get up and play in the snow. I went to the fountain and made this photo.

I kept invisioning all of the trees in black and white and I think they came out pretty well.

It didn't take long before the students started pelting each other with snow balls. I asked a couple of groups if they minded if I shot some photos of them playing. Of course they didn't care. They just wanted to throw snow balls.

Since I was shooting with the 105 macro I thought it would be a good idea to actually get a close up of something.

One the way home I spotted a couple sledding down a big hill. I pulled the car over and asked if I could photograph them sledding down. Again, no problem! They had a blast. I'm pretty sure they yelled back that they just got engaged! How awesome is that! Snow and a ring! What a way to start the week!
